Feminism and the right to be equal
May 15, 2015
Okay, I feel that this has to be said, it shouldn't have to be said but someone has to say it.
Feminism means equality for everyone, not just women! People wrongly assume that the Feminist movement is run by a group of man hating women, intent on enslaving men. Answer: It's not. It advocates equality between all the sexes, races and religions and it just so happens that women are the main focus because, even in the 21st Century, women are still not receiving the same treatment as men. There are still huge differences in the way men and women are treated and Feminism works to bridge the gap between the sexes. Why shouldn't women get the same pay as a man doing the same job? Why should women be judged on their clothes and body type? Why are young girls taught that their self-worth comes from a man? Similarly though, why should men be called 'gay' for liking ballet and other typically 'feminine' things? Why should men be discouraged from showing emotion? Why aren't we all equal?
I'm not going to bombard you with statistics because, quite frankly, I like to think of myself as a lighthearted blog and I could make a list a mile long of all the injustice in the world, but who would want to read that? What I will say though is we are all human beings, we are all the same race. No matter what skin colour, religion or sexuality we all deserve to be treated exactly the same. No one race/religion/sexuality is superior to another, people have the right to dress, love and live the way they want without worrying about adverse opinions from others. If you treat everybody how you would like to be treated yourself and don't judge people at face value, you are making the effort to treat people equally and that effort goes a long way. Think of it this way, a Husky and a Border Collie are both types of dog, one is built for the snow and the other is built for herding sheep but they are still dogs. None of them are superior in anyway, but they both have their strengths and that's the same with humans; we are all diverse and unique, but no one is above anyone else no matter what their beliefs or monetary status.
